In most of these cases, the primary cause of the problem is related to the jaw structure. There are many situations in which a surgical orthodontic plan is the “ideal” treatment, but other options exist that will provide a less than optimal result. Many times, surgical treatment plans will yield a better facial profile and fix the bite, while the non-surgical option will fix the bite without a positive change in the profile. These decisions are best made by the patient based on the desired outcomes of the treatment.
